Writing – What’s Holding You Back?

Here’s another survey for you. Again, you may answer either in the comments section or via email (see end of post for address).

What things are holding you back from writing that book you’ve been dreaming about publishing?

Does it seem you don’t have enough time to fit writing into your schedule?
Do you feel guilty taking time away from family, friends, or your never-ending list of things to do to write?
Does it feel like a selfish indulgence when you could be “making money” with another j-o-b?
Have you tried sitting down to write in the past but you got stuck and gave up?
Do your words make you cringe with embarrassment when you re-read them later?
Are you at a loss for interesting ideas to write about?
Do you feel unworthy to write, even though you feel there is a book in you?
Has someone belittled your writing in the past, even though you feel compelled to write?
Have you given up on your dream of writing a book?
Do you think you’re too old, too young, too uneducated, too embarrassed, too (insert reason here)?

Again, there are too many variations and possibilities for what might be holding you back. If I didn’t list your reasons, feel free to tell me. If you email me privately with what’s holding you back, rest assured that I will not use anything you tell me in a way that would identify you even to family and friends. All I’m after is information on how to help you achieve your dream of being a published author.

How do I know that’s your dream? 86% of Americans said they wanted to write a book someday. Even if you’re not from the USA, chances are your country has its own share of would-be authors. We were created to be communicators. Writing a book is a natural extension of that.
