Story Ideas from Dreams
By Deb Gallardo
Author Lisa Iriarte has a unique way of coming up with story ideas. Many writers may well envy her this particular gift, because as far as I can tell, there’s no way to learn or fake her technique for coming up with stories, characters and whole plotlines. More’s the pity…
I go to bed at night and frequently wake up with a complete scene, (sometimes a complete story or novel) in my head. It will contain character names, settings, dialog.

If she could bottle this and sell it, she’d be a very rich woman…

Lekhni,
I’m with you. On two occasions, both this year, I had dreams that I woke up from, and immediately wrote down what I could remember. Mostly, though, when I’ve had dreams that, as I slowly awaken from them and think it’s a story, by the time I’m fully awake=alive (LOL) the dream is gone like the mist. I just shrug and hope next time I might remember.
Thanks for stopping by. You’re always welcome. And thanks for your good wishes on my blog anniversary. (Thanks for NOT commenting on my birthday, as I’m getting to the point I’m almost embarrassed to say how old I am. Let’s just say that next year I enter a decade I never thought I’d see THIS soon. ROFL But I AM a Baby Boomer. There, that gives you a ballpark idea. Born between 1945 and 1965.)

That’s too broad, I wish you’d narrow it down
(1945 to 1965 I mean)
On the dreams, that’s exactly what happens. The only time I remember dreams, they are so nonsensical. Anyway, I can almost always recognize what provoked those dreams, so they aren’t very magical (or even fictional)
Dang! There goes my chance at some great story ideas

Lekhni,
I wish I COULD narrow it down, but unfortunately I didn’t create the era. I spans from the end of World War II when all the soldiers came home from the war (probably closer to 1946) and there was a huge birth surge. This same surge occurred all over the planet, interestingly enough.
And 1965 was the advent of the birth control pill, which caused an immediate drop in the number of births and that drop continued for a number of years until it stabilized. Obviously this is primarily what happened in Western countries. Other areas of the world with differing cultural views have another result. As I am a product of my culture, I can only speak from that perspective.
Obviously this time period includes a diverse age difference. The first wave of Boomers to hit the age of 50 happened in 1995-96. That wave will continue through 2015 and possibly beyond.
It’s been described as a rubber garden hose that’s straight and normal, except for a big bulge in the middle. This bulge is moving toward the end of the hose.
The trick for marketers is to be on the leading edge of that wave, and ride it all the way to the end. Interesting stuff. Not sure I can fathom it all, but it still interests me.
Thanks for commenting. You are ALWAYS welcome here!
