Should You Write an eBook?
By Deb Gallardo
To Write an eBook or Not to Write an eBook –
That is the Question
You’re a writer interested in writing fiction. That’s why you’re here. (Either that, or my mother made you promise to visit my blog to be kind to me.)
But let’s assume the former, that you’re interested in writing fiction. if you’re looking to make consistent money with your writing, novels probably won’t do it for you unless you beat the odds and become a bestselling author.
Given the length of time it can take for a publisher’s response — up to two years, which is totally ridiculous and wouldn’t be tolerated in many other fields that I can think of — what do writers do in the meantime? Slog away at jobs we hate just to pay the bills? I know too well the toll that takes on the psyche.
There are a few solutions. One is what many writers who have this thing about eating regularly, satisfying their landlord or mortgage-holder, and keeping fuel in their car have been doing for decades, and that is freelance writing. It is also a highly competitive field, and has its own set of criteria and a learning curve, of course. I’m not discouraging you, just laying out the facts as I know them. On the other hand, the information highway is a hungry beast, always searching for more, er, food (information).
Another avenue you might take is to write an eBook about an area of expertise you can write about easily and quickly. How quickly? Well, Jim Edwards, a friend of mine, and a sought-after seminar speaker and presenter in the Internet Marketing arena, says it’s possible to write an eBook in as little as 7 days.
He’s right.
After waffling about for two years over what kind of product to sell online, I downloaded Jim’s book, got an idea, and then just started writing instead of thinking about it and analyzing it and testing it to death. The subject was something I could write about without research, the words flowed quickly and in 2 days I had a rough draft. In another 5, right under the wire, I had it polished and formatted as a PDF.
I’ve since tinkered with it a bit, but the point is, if I can do it, so can you. My eBook, “How to Find Story Ideas Inside Your Daily Newspaper” isn’t up on the web YET, because I’ve not quite mastered website design. But I’m learning.
To be notified personally when my eBook goes on sale, send an email to: info [at] debgallardo [dot] com with “eBook” in the subject line.
Now, that said, there’s only one way you can truly answer the question in the title of this post. But before you do that, you owe it to yourself to check out Jim Edward’s product. He collaborated with best-selling author Dr. Joe Vitale to produce “How to Write and Publish Your Own eBook in as Little as 7 Days.” Thousands of people have downloaded this product since then. I’m one of them.
I highly recommend his eBook. Jim, a syndicated columnist, is also a no-BS, tell-it-like-it-is marketer who not only teaches Internet Marketing, but also practices successfully what he preaches in several niches around the ‘Net. He’s got a great guarantee, too, so check it out and YOU decide if writing an eBook can be another stream of income. Lord knows, we’re all supposed to be doing that anyway.
