Story Ideas Using Instapaper
By Deb Gallardo
Here’s a useful tool for saving articles online that you don’t have time to read, but that you don’t want to “save” onto your computer because they might get “lost” or otherwise fill up your hard drive. It was mentioned already in a recent article on The Story Ideas Virtuoso at: Story Ideas Tools to Keep Track of Your Inspiration.
Instapaper.com’s FAQ says this about their free service:
What does Instapaper do?
Instapaper facilitates easy reading of long text content. We discover web content throughout the day, and sometimes, we don’t have time to read long articles right when we find them. Instapaper allows you to easily save them for later, when you do have time, so you don’t just forget about them or skim through them. Why?
There’s no time to sit and read anything when you’re going through 500 feed items while responding to email, chatting, and watching bad YouTube videos. As a result, popular blogs are now full of useless “list posts” with no substance or value. Well-written content is out there, and we do have opportunities every day to read it — just not when we’re in information-skimming, speed-overload mode.
All you do is register so that you have an account where the web content you want to come back to is archived. Drag their Read Later icon to your bookmarks toolbar in your browser. As you come across content you don’t have time to read right away, click Read later and your content will be saved. When you’re ready to read your archived content, go to http://www.instapaper.com/. (Note: Cookies must be enabled for this to work.)
Now keep those ideas coming!
