Story Ideas – From One Mind to Another
By Deb Gallardo
Usually I write articles, or find excerpts from articles by others, on sources of story ideas that you can find yourself. Writer Dorian Scott Cole has gone one step farther and created a page on his site where you can peruse ideas he has partially conceptualized.
Ideas cannot be copyrighted. Story treatments, outlines and storylines, however, can be copyrighted. If you use any of Dorian’s ideas, attribution in the form of : “From an idea by …” or “Based on an idea by …” is sufficient. You see this in opening credits for TV episodes and movies frequently. Although Dorian’s focus is more on film than novels, story ideas can make the transition from one medium to another. That’s why we’re writers. *grin*
