Focus - Make One Simple Change

By Deb Gallardo

I have an ADD brain, one that came hard-wired, right out of the box, with Attention Deficit Disorder before the condition had been identified and separated from hyperactivity. I only became aware of possessing such a “gift” when I read Stephanie Frank’s “The Accidental Millionaire” in 2005. I’m new, therefore, to learning how to cope with the down side and how to use the up side of having such convolutions to my gray matter.

I’m also a creative type. That gives me a double whammy in the focus department, so my track record of accomplishments isn’t what I’d like it to be. And I know I’m not alone.

Do you flit from project to project to project without finishing any of them? Do you work for hours on end, but ultimately have nothing to show for all your labors?

If so, you’re not alone either. I’ve found that when I make a list of all the things swirling around in my brain that I’d LIKE to do, that I MUST do and that I OUGHT to do, the feeling of being pulled in a zillion directions is less intense.

Merely making a list won’t suddenly make you more productive or able to finish projects. But relieving some of that internal pressure can help you to make better decisions. So by taking one simple step, ie - making a to-do list, and doing it consistently, you could see a positive change in the number of things you accomplish. With each item you mark off your list, your confidence will grow. The more confident you feel, the more you will be motivated to continue in the same vein. That’s one cycle that’s NOT a vicious one.

What have you found that has worked for you? Share it in the comments section or blog about it and link to this post.
