Story Ideas – the Earth-Sun Connection

Researchers have discovered ‘magnetic portals’ that form in Earth’s magnetosphere. Now, I realize that these are not portals that people can travel through. They’re how high-energy particles travel from the Sun to the Earth.
But as a writer with a vivid imagination and a love of fantasy and science fiction, just reading that Earth and its sun are connected in this way, intermittently, got my creative juices flowing.
Story Ideas Takeaway:
What if scientists figured out a way to use such portals to transport ships from Earth through the “cosmic stream?” As these specially-protected ships approached the Sun, what if they could connect to portals connected to other planets in our solar system? Is there a challenge or danger having to “swim upstream” through this flow of particles emanating from the Sun?
With my limited scientific knowledge, I can’t begin to speculate how this might be worked out practically, even on a theoretical basis, but that’s what science fiction is: speculative fiction at its most imaginative.
