Sci-Fi Story Ideas from Pulsars
By Deb Gallardo
In an article from NASA that I referred to recently, I learned about their Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Use of this telescope has revealed a new type of pulsar that leads scientists to believe there are unknown stars in our galaxy just waiting for us to discover as our reach into space expands.
STORY IDEAS TAKEAWAY:
- Are these stars reachable by deep-space unmanned probes?
- Will these stars give rise to the creation of faster means of space travel?
- Of alternative fuel sources?
- Of extra-terrestrial life?
- Write about present-day scientists working on these and other advances, including the “people problems” common to research, working with government funding (please, no cliché plots where government and big business are the real bad guys) versus private funding, personalities of “geeks” and socially-balanced researchers.
