Seven riddles, a secret underground city — it’s the stuff of a great adventure tale.

But in this case the adventure may be just beginning. In Tokyo, Japan, a tunnel system has existed for years. After all, when your entire nation has only the land mass of California, you can either build up (which has its limitations) or build down.

Japanese researcher Shun Akiba, however, found an old map of the Tokyo tunnel system with discrepancies when compared to modern maps of the present system. And he has since discovered six more irregularities.

Other historical records and maps have raised the specter of hidden underground spaces. Is it any surprise, then, that the government of Japan has denied vehemently any of Akiba’s claims?

I’m looking forward to seeing how this one plays out. More power to Shun Akiba! Let’s hope they don’t buy him off or that he doesn’t meet with a sudden freak accident. Hmm. I may have been watching too many conspiracy-theory-type movies… My apologies and no offense intended to the Japanese government. My imagination was working overtime.
