Creative Writing – 7 Habits of Highly Creative People
By Deb Gallardo
My friend Dan Goodwin, creativity coach extraordinaire, is one of those Da Vinci types who do a multitude of creative things, from various forms of writing to art. In this article, he is writing to artists, but everything he mentions here applies equally to writers. Every time you read the word “artist,” substitute “writer,” and you will be right in the groove.
- Create every day …Start with just 15 minutes a day at a time that works best for you, build the habit and watch your creativity flourish.
- Collect ideas …Capture all your ideas by keeping a notebook with you at all times.
- Identify strengths …The more you focus on your strengths, the more you’ll use them, and the happier and more creative you’ll become.
- Track and celebrate progress …When you track your progress… you’ll be impressed at how much you actually have been creating without giving yourself the credit you deserve.
- Understand your inner critic …Behind all of your inner critic’s apparent negativity is a positive motive – to keep you protected and safe from disappointment.
- Do what you love …Think carefully about what YOU long to create, then follow those passions.
- Network and socialize …Get in touch with other artists and share triumphs and struggles.
